I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1993. When I learned I could utilize the Marathon Health services through Chesapeake Public Schools, I immediately signed up for health coaching. Using Marathon Health saves money and the school gives us wellness leave to utilize the center. It’s a true bonus to our benefits.

The nurse practitioners are outstanding. I cannot say enough compliments about their knowledge and the treatment they have always provided to me. It’s been above and beyond.

I decided I wanted to start making little changes, and with their help, I set a goal to lose 25 pounds. At each session, we would discuss eating and exercise tips. I wanted weight loss to be permanent, so we set realistic goals and changes to my diet.

I lost my soulmate Mike to COVID in December of 2021 and losing him changed everything. I lost my appetite. The staff at Marathon Health was there for me. They would call to check up on me in between coaching. They always ensured that I was eating well and eating enough. They not only helped me physically, but they helped me emotionally.

I started exercising for an hour each day right after school. If it wasn’t too hot or cold, I’d walk 3 miles. If the weather didn’t cooperate, I’d go to the gym. When I finished, I had more energy and any stressors diminished. This hour fills a void in my day that was usually filled with a phone call to Mike.

I actually look forward to exercise now. I have surpassed my weight goal. With the approval of my endocrinologist, I have been able to cut my diabetes medication in half. I feel great. The health coaches are my medical cheerleaders. — Angela Holliday, Marathon Health Member
