Since my 20s, I had struggled with anxiety, PTSD, and depression. I had trouble in all aspects of life, from work to relationships. Depression made it difficult to find happiness in my life.

Determined to learn how I could better handle the everyday stresses of life, I sought out behavioral health counseling with Sherri Guinn, LPC at the Empower Wellness Center.

Sherri helped me learn new ways to develop and change. We worked to find the root causes of my mental state and I learned how to focus on the positives in life when I felt down or depressed.

I now use coping mechanisms when my anxiety starts to escalateUsing a journal and letter writing, I now expel my thoughts instead of letting them stay in my mind where they only get worse.

This work has changed every part of my life. I haven’t had a panic attack in six months. I’ve successfully moved up in my career, and am expecting my first child. I feel better about myself and am happier than I’ve ever been. I now have stable relationships and smile more. I know my worth and my capabilities. I could never see that in the past.

Mental illness is like any other illness – it doesn’t make you weak or less of a person. The sooner you get help, the faster you can find healing. It was a big step for me to go to Sherri for counseling, but it’s one I’ll be forever grateful I made.
