I have diabetes and high blood pressure, which has had a devastating impact on my entire life. It brought on skin issues and my condition placed me in a high-risk category if I get COVID. All of this has caused stress on me and my family. I knew something had to change and that change had to begin with me.

I visit the Chesapeake Public Schools Marathon Health Center through my employer every quarter, and I also have a health coach. I applied for the Diabetes Management Program. Marathon Health and Nurse Practitioner Moniqueia Flint gave me the tools I needed to improve my health.

I started improving my diet and incorporated walking into my daily plan. I am doing strength exercises, climbing and playing with my grandchildren. And, most importantly, having fun.

I have lost 70 pounds and am improving all of my health markers. I look and feel like my young self again and I have a new attitude about my life. I know I can accomplish my goals. My recommendation is to just start taking care of your health. If you take one day at a time, you will see improvement. — Michelle Olds, Marathon Health member
