I was unhappy with my weight and appearance, but it wasn’t until I completed a biometric screening through Marathon Health that I realized how it was impacting my health. I felt sluggish, unmotivated, less confident, and my blood work showed my eating habits were raising my cholesterol levels.
I worked with Kristin King, registered dietitian at Laitram Health and Wellness Center, to develop a plan to help me on my weight–loss journey. I started eating cleaner and exercising more regularly, which positively influenced my mood, sleep, and confidence.
Kristin did a body scan that showed weight, fat and muscle mass, and water retention, among other important health indicators. This was incredibly helpful for me, as weight alone doesn’t tell the full story. That being said, my initial goal was to lose 10 to 15 pounds. In less than a year, I lost 25!
My second scan showed no weight change, but my muscle mass went up while my fat went down. If we had only tracked my progress on a scale, I would’ve thought my lifestyle changes weren’t making an impact.
Feeling healthier has made me a better person. My relationship with myself and others has improved. In fact, I had my father as my accountability partner, which made the journey easier and more enjoyable.
I think many people don’t seek help because they’re embarrassed. Kristin always made me feel very comfortable during our visits. I’m so grateful for the support I received from the Marathon Health team who walked alongside me in my journey.
