I was overweight, had high blood pressure and prediabetes, and was unable to keep up with my grandkids when they visited me. I wanted to be able to spend more time with them. I also wanted to be able to exercise with my wife at the gym without slowing her down. I knew it was time to make a change.

I went to my Marathon Health center and saw Monica Pitt, FNP, who advised me that I needed to change my diet and lifestyle if I were to avoid developing diabetes. She also began to see my wife, and recommended that we both try intermittent fasting to help us lose weight. We continued to see Monica monthly so she could check our weight, review our healthy eating plans, and continue to encourage us. As a result, my wife has lost 20 pounds!

As for me, I’ve started eating two meals a day between 10am and 6pm, and I go to the gym daily to swim. I’ve also cut out processed foods and have reduced my sugar intake significantly. With my new lifestyle, I’ve lost over 30 pounds, have more energy, and can keep up with my grandkids. I was even able to go on a lifelong-desired trip to Israel where I walked 5 miles a day! I never would have been able to do that before.

To those who want to make a lifestyle change – don’t be afraid to start. Your health depends on it and you’ll be glad you did it.
