After suffering with rapidly fluctuating weight, severe acne breakouts, and other hormonal issues, I was diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome. Growing up, I often found myself surrounded by body image norms that made me feel out of place and undervalued, which negatively impacted my self-esteem. After college, I made it my goal to focus on my health and wellbeing.

To achieve this goal, I started by eliminating processed foods and unhealthy sugars. I worked with Amanda Murphy, RN health coach at the Jumbo Health Center, to introduce a more consistent exercise routine. I now go on walks before, during, and after work to get my step count up and have found they also help decrease my stress. To keep up this momentum, I also improved my strength through resistance training, yoga, and biking. I whole-heartedly feel more balanced and more likely to succeed with my aspirations.

Amanda has been a huge part of my journey. She always knows just how to help and convey support. With her guidance, I am living my life as a happier, more motivated, and stable woman. However, this is not a one-day fix; there are still many steps ahead to reach my ultimate goals.

Your health does not have to be a big, scary thing – you can take it into your own hands. The best advice I have is to make small, achievable goals that build toward a healthier lifestyle. Support systems at your wellness center, like Amanda at mine, will be by your side at every turn.
