Marathon Health History

Our Beginnings

The name “Marathon Health” reflects the commitment and discipline needed to positively affect personal health, and the great rewards that come as a result of reaching healthy goals.

Our roots in health care run deep.  Marathon Health was founded by Richard E. Tarrant, who, in 1969 started IDX Corporation, one of the world’s largest medical software companies.  IDX clinical and financial software is run in 80% of our nation’s teaching hospitals.  IDX was sold to GE Healthcare in 2005 for $1.4B.  Marathon Health is Mr. Tarrant’s next healthcare venture. Much of the Marathon Health executive team came from IDX with Mr. Tarrant.  With Marathon Health, Mr. Tarrant further advances his vision for healthcare to help motivate and engage individuals to accept responsibility for their own health and healthcare.

At Marathon Health, the foundation of what we do is grounded in our mission to help improve quality while reducing the cost of healthcare. We have developed a proven model designed to improve access to care at reduced costs, increase engagement rates in health maintenance, risk reduction and disease management services, and to provide a return on your investment.
